Objective: Ensure students, especially first-generation and historically underserved, receive the guidance, resources, and experiences they need to thrive academically, professionally, and personally throughout their academic journey and beyond. 

1. Address basic needs and promote student well-being. 

This initiative strengthens the support for students’ health and well-being in the progress of their education. 

2. Expand and/or clarify the behavioral tendencies and professional skills needed to be successful in degree, credential, and career pathways. 

This initiative promotes student progress and post-graduation success. 

3. Strengthen fieldwork, mentoring, and career-connected coursework and experience that differentiate the program for greater recruitment, graduate readiness, and lifelong engagement of alumni. 

This initiative supports student career success by bridging the gap between academic learning and post-graduation success. 

CEIS’ Strategic Goal 1 Initiatives align with the 2025-2027 Transition Extension Plan’s Strategic Initiative 1 to deliver quality programs that promote integrative learning, discovery and creativity; Strategic Initiative 2 to enhance student learning, development and success; and Strategic Initiative 3 to prepare our students for the future of work and human and civic engagement. 

Objective: Foster a resilient, inclusive, and connected CEIS community where all members—faculty, staff, and students—are respected, recognized, and supported in their personal and professional growth. 

1. Develop leadership and mentorship pathways across roles. 

This initiative motivates stronger mentoring structures as part of the culture of care. 

2. Build a culture of appreciation and responsibility. 

This initiative promotes care across the faculty, staff, and student community of CEIS. 

3. Prioritize well-being through flexibility, sustainability, and psychological safety. 

This initiative supports the viability of a long-lasting positive culture in the college. 

4. Promote collaborative, cross-role dialogue and shared problem-solving. 

This initiative supports collegiality and coordination in CEIS’s work. 

5. Advance CEIS’ equity-driven values of empathy, compassion, and inclusion to build belonging through thinking historically, ecologically, and spatially to build a culture of reciprocity and kinship. 

This initiative advances actions that invoke values in learning the ways we are intimately connected across space and time through interconnected communities of living beings and the non-living environment.

Objective: Embed justice, equity, and care into CEIS programs, partnerships, and culture ensuring our work deepens trust, articulates collaboration, and establishes shared purpose across CEIS, campus partners, and the broader communities we serve—especially TK–12 districts, community colleges, and local organizations to meet collective needs. 

1. Build and sustain equity-focused pipelines with schools, community colleges, and local organizations. 

This initiative motivates collaboration and partnerships. 

2. Build institutional infrastructure for collaborations that foster justice and belonging within and beyond CEIS and seek grant and external funding where appropriate. 

This initiative promotes community-building. 

3. Develop shared initiatives and resource platforms with community partners to develop relational infrastructures that promote community empowerment. 

This initiative addresses community-building and partnerships. 

4. Engage with community in critical praxis to develop critical consciousness inside and outside of the university. 

This initiative is student-development centered to promote justice, equity, and belonging by creating pathways to address external challenges to anti-DEI and sociopolitical aspects of educating students.

Objective: Promote CEIS’ distinctive role as a leader in integrative, interdisciplinary, multilingual, and justice-driven education, rooted in integrative thinking and responsive innovation. 

1. Leverage CEIS’ pedagogical expertise to support broader campus initiatives toward interdisciplinary and transformative education. 

This initiative motivates the use of pedagogical know-how to be a leader in areas of educating and elevating CEIS’ identity. 

2. Develop centers and labs, such as a digital humanities lab, for cross-disciplinary innovation. 

This initiative promotes specific digital competencies that elevate CEIS’ leadership and identity. 

3. Pursue external partnerships and funding for integrative, justice-aligned work. 

This initiative addresses the need to work with external partners and secure funding to be a leader in integrative, interdisciplinary, multilingual, and justice-driven education to elevate CEIS’ identity. 

4. Embed strategic planning as an iterative, inclusive process reflecting evolving priorities that support CEIS’ identity. 

This initiative focuses on the culture of continuous improvement to be responsive and elevate CEIS’ identity. 

5. Launch interdisciplinary courses, programs, and partnerships (e.g., climate justice, multilingual education) and incorporate technology into teaching. 

This initiative addresses the need to create new and transformative education that elevates CEIS’ identity.
