The Huntley Collection: New Acquisitions | A Journey through the Seasons

March 09, 2026 to May 14, 2026

Over the years, varied selections of artwork from the Huntley Collection have been curated with themes such as “Creatures of the Wild West”, “Living Life in the West”, and “Windows to the West” highlighting the gorgeous selection of landscapes and mountain views, and wildlife paintings. Many of the paintings in the collection also reflect the points of view of the people of the west — from the cowhand, to the native, from the immigrant worker to the female present in the western landscape. Of the depictions of animals selected, most reflect the animals that live, traverse, subsist and survive in what we call the wild, wild, west. Each of the subjects represented within the collection—whether ranch hand, native, elk, buffalo, mountain or valley—represent the necessary components holding the delicate balance of relationships between each, and the vast, diverse and rugged landscape. This year, we are proud to feature the newest acquisitions recently donated by Mr. Huntley while also highlighting these newest works thematically through the seasons. The Huntley Collection: A Journey through the Seasons was cleverly conceived and designed by Senior Architecture student, and Lead Gallery Assistant, Lindsey Dea, under the mentorship of Gallery Curator Michele Cairella Fillmore. Gallery Assistants-Architecture Specialists Julianna Santillana, Giovanna Goncalves, Jeresa Jianghov, Angel Romero assisted in artwork installation, while the Gallery’s Vis Art Comm Design Team of Assistants, Ethan Buhain, Marianna Cruz, Koyou Wu and Riley Earl developed all marketing designs and didactic collateral for this exhibit, also under the Gallery Curator’s pedagogy. The Huntley Gallery is a vibrant place that allows the College of Environmental Design to display unique works by artists from around the country, support departmental exhibition needs within the College, and highlight the University’s Permanent Collections, including the exquisite landscapes and scenes of ‘the Wild West’ within Mr. Huntley’s collection. Moreover, it is also a generously endowed space, in the name of Mr. Huntley, for the hands-on instruction of students to interact with collections, learn museum-level gallery practices, and develop marketing and design skills while working on campus.
